Hundreds of volunteers make a Girls
on the Run® season possible. Our volunteers are dynamic women and men who
share in our vision of transforming the lives of girls and women
everywhere.
Become a Coach
Coaches
are enthusiastic women over 18 who volunteer to motivate, educate and inspire Girls
on the Run® and Girls on Track® program participants
during a 12-week season. Coaches complete a daylong training to become certified to facilitate twice-weekly, 75 minute sessions that include a community impact project and training for the New Balance Girls on the Run 5K. Our coaches have one thing in common - a strong desire to make a positive difference in
girls’ lives by empowering them to make healthy choices now
and in the future. Click here to download a Fall 2010 Coach application!
The best part of being a coach is the connection with my girls. I love every single one of them, and honestly look forward to seeing them twice a week. They are an amazing group and bring so much into my life! - HOLLI, coach
I'll be honest, I joined GOTR as a coach for two very selfish reason - that it would be great for our then six year old daughter to see me, and it would help me be a better parent. After being a running buddy at one 5K and coach for two seasons, I realize that coaching helps me be a better person. I've been able to revisit my inner child by dancing, coloring on sidewalks, chasing girls in bunny ears and dressing up goofy while cheering girls on. GOTR helps me get in touch with a silliness that is both shocking and inspiring. Being a coach doesn't require on step of actual running. Instead we get to help the girls find a love and respect for running, themselves, their teammates and the world around them. -DAWN, coach
I enjoy being another
support person in the girls' lives. - NANCY, coach
I get the chance to connect with women and girls in my community. - KRISTEN,
coach
Become a Junior Coach
Junior
Coaches are high school girls who assist a Girls on the Run®
team by helping with the program at each session and serving as a
positive role model for younger girls. Like our Head and Assistant coaches, Junior
Coaches make a 12-week commitment to motivate, educate and inspire
program participants. Click here to download a Fall 2010 Junior Coach application here!
GOTR
always manages to energize me for the rest of my day. I love getting to
know the girls and seeing them grow as runners and people. - ALIDA,
coach
The success of the girls at the final 5K was probably the best part! - STACI, coach
Become a Running Buddy
A
Running Buddy is a fun, supportive woman who accompanies a girl during
the New Balance Girls on the Run 5K, encouraging her to do her best as she strives to
reach her goal. Over the course of the 12-week program, girls
increase their stamina and distance to prepare for running the
5K. At the 5K, a Running Buddy is with a girl from start to
finish as she experiences the exhilaration of accomplishing her goal!

Being a
running buddy has been a fantastic experience. It has motivated me to run and
to stop and think about all the wonderful role models I've had in my life. It's
nice to be able to put the spotlight in one special girl and support her as she
reaches for her own girls. -CARYN, running buddy
I loved how excited the girls were about the run, and my buddy kept referring
to it as "the big day!" Despite the weather not cooperating well,
there was an incredible energy at the event. -JACKI, running buddy
I never knew what fun being a buddy would be! My buddy plus her best friend and
HER buddy ran together and I was glad for the youth since I am older. It was a
blast for the girls to get us and each other through the run. It was great.
- PAT, running buddy

Sponsor a Girl Give the gift of a full season to a girl in need. When you sponsor a girl by making a online donation of $160 you ensure that a girl whose family cannot afford the program fee can benefit from Girls on the Run. Nearly half of the girls who register for our programs each season request a partial or full scholarship to participate. Help us reach our goal of ensuring all girls can be Girls on the Run
